Technical Platform

The IMD Technical Platform (ITP) is formed by the set of official systems selected to cover all types of method levels. The ITP was defined to concentrate the maintenance efforts on a limited number of systems, to facilitate the investments in software solutions and to create a stronger standardization effect worldwide. Each system of the ITP is under the responsibility of a NMTMA, which has to continuously improve the quality of the training material and distribute annually the new master manual to all other NMTMAs. Generally, the responsible NMTMA is the organization which conducted the research and development work.

The ITP includes the following systems:

MTM-1

MTM-1, developed in the forties,  is the basic system from which all other MTM systems have been developed. This system, which is used worldwide, determines the time necessary for performing a given operation by analyzing the manual motions required and assigning a time value to each. MTM-1 is ideally suited to use in high volume production environments. 

MTM-2

MTM-2, developed in the sixties, represents a second generation of synthesized data, based on the MTM-1 system. It was constructed through use of statistical analysis of basic MTM-1 motion patterns. This system is best-suited for use in environments which exhibit the characteristics of series production.

MTM-UAS

MTM-UAS, a third generation system based on statistical analysis of MTM-1 data and the sampling of assembly-specific motions, is designed for planning and economical measurement of batch production, with medium-cycle times. 

MTM-MEK

MTM-MEK, a third generation system based on statistical analysis of MTM-1 data and the sampling of job-shop specific motions, is designed for economical measurement of small lot or one-of-a-kind production, with long-cycle times, as well as other infrequently performed tasks previously considered too costly or difficult to measure. 

EAWS

EAWS is  a comprehensive screening tool designed for the assessment of the biomechanical load
